Gap Year Travel Resources: Travel Photography

Travel photography represents a growing area with the rapid rise of digital cameras and digital slr cameras. Taking photographs while travelling has never been easier with small pocketable digital cameras with large zooms providing a large amount of flexibility and portability for people from all walks of life. Cameras such as the Panasonic DMC TZ7 has dominated the market but other manufacturers are catching up with Sony releasing the DSC HX5 and Samsung the WB650.

The recent introduction of the Micro Four Thirds camera system has provided the ultimate travel cameras which have large sensors, small mirror less bodies, lens mounts and adapters which can accept interchangeable lenses and most importantly, can rival the quality of a digital SLR without the bulk. Currently, Panasonic and Olympus produce micro four thirds cameras such as the G2 or E-PL1 while Samsung is the first manufacturer to produce a mirror less camera system using an APS size sensor called the NX10. Sony has released the NEX4 and NEX5 cameras and others will follow with their own systems later in the year. These mirror less cameras are the ideal cameras for all types of travel photography from amateur to professional and stock photographers will benefit from the compact bodies and high image quality which these cameras are capable of producing. Currently there is no name to categorize these mirror less cameras but some have called them SLD (single lens direct view) cameras or EVIL ( electronic viewfinder interchangeable lens) cameras.

This section will list various sites related to travel photography - both amateur and professional.
